Bio

Carly Waller is a writer and editor from Melbourne. They have a Bachelor of Media and Communication, majoring in Professional Writing and Editing, from Swinburne University. They have previously attained a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing from Swinburne University and Certificate IV of Professional Writing and Editing from Victoria University.

Throughout their studies they have completed various projects such as: working as submissions manager and editor for the 10th Edition of Backstory Journal, working as a sub-editor for Swine Magazine throughout 2023, and completing an internship and freelance work as social media manager at Emerald Psychology (2022).

As a writer, Carly is interested in writing short fiction and creative nonfiction, spanning across several genres and forms. Throughout their creative nonfiction pieces, they delve into specific relationships (romantic, platonic, familial) and depict people connecting and disconnecting in honest, realistic and vulnerable ways. They aim to be open with their writing and connect with readers.

Carly also has a passion for romance of all kinds and writes both longer form and short stories. Carly has found joy in writing queer romance, both contemporary and historical/regency. They aim to be refreshing and humorous… and just the right amount of spicy.

Outside of work and writing, Carly can be found reading (romance, fantasy, YA), listening to music, and editing wild Wattpad novels and fanfiction.
